  • Difference in PST size

I love PST files, i trust the backup, but with an PST file i can do more.

The mailbox size of the users on a SBS 2008 server range from a few 100 MB's to multiple gigs.

When i take an example and look in Outlook 2010 to the mapsize, it says it is 3221891 KB large. A mere 3GB.

When i export all mailboxes to a PST file with a script using the Exchange powershell, the exported PST file for this user is 7,5GB large.

If i look at the statistics with the powershell, the mailbox is 2854MB large. So what is the extra 4GB of data in the exported PST file????

Is it deleted mail still on the server?

    Re: Difference in PST size

I have connected an exported PST file in Outlook and the main difference is that their is 1GB of data in deleted mail and i have about 4500 messages in the unwanted email box. That still leaves about 3GB in size that is there but i don't know in what folder.
