  • Unable to send mails on email client for SBS 2011 account

    Hi,

I'm on SBS 2011, OWA(OutlookWeb Access) and OA (outlook anywhere, i.e, RPC/HTTP) are working fine.

Im unable to send thru mails thru outlook (POP3), Thunderbird (IMAP & POP3) & Zimbra Desktop Client (IMAP & POP3), even though I'm able to configure both POP3 or IMAP.

On Zimbra desktop cient, I am also able to configure the account as "Exchange IMAP".

However, on the LAN, using the LAN IP of the server, i'm able to send mails when I am inputting LAN IP in the SMTP server field, but not with FQDN/SMTP server name.

Incoming mails are not an issue at all.

Where am i going wrong? Please help.

    TIA

    Regards
    Venu

Re: Unable to send mails on email client for SBS 2011 account

You need to configure a receive connector for SMTP clients. POP and IMAP don't send email, they just retrieve it from the server. To send email, the client (Thunderbird, etc.) makes an SMTP connection to the server to send the email. The server needs to receive the email and then send it to its destination.

    Make sense?
