  • SBS 2003 to SBS 2003 Migration

    Dear Experts,

At our branch office we have a SBS 2003 with 25 users. Here we have decided to change the hardware (server machine) but we are installing sbs 2003 operating system. we are also using exchange. My task is ti migrate from old sbs 2003 to new sbs 2003 (with new domain) with out interrupting the users.
so my plan of action are:

    1. install sbs 2003 OS
    2. configure users.
    3. Install and configure exchange pop3 connector.

At present all users are using exchange. Profile migration can be done but what about the mails all are in ost format.

Kindly Advice a better plan of action

Export emails to PST -- OSTs will not be readable after the migration

if you are using OST files, then all the email is on the exchange server (or, should be.)

So, yourt swing migration should take care of migrating the mail settings..

If you're keeping everything the same (but the hardware)

just install sbs, drivers, & service packs, and restore from backup.

I could type up a few pages of text, but the thoughtful folks in Redmond did it for me!

"Migrating Windows Small Business Server 2003 to New Hardware"

That should give you a huge leg up on the whole process. After scouring that whole page, come back with any clarifying issues that you might have.
