  • SBS 2011 - Outlook 2007 Issue

    Hi,

I'll try and keep this brief.

Problem:- Outlook 2007 keeps defaulting to internal exchange server rather than corporate exchange server.

    Background:-

Customer using SBS 2011 only for AD, Web Access - files, printing and storage. All laptops with Outlook 2007 - Email is used via http exchange server hosted externally. Internal Exchange server is not used.

    Further Information:-

When I configure outlook to use http exchange server it will work fine, until they reboot. Upon reboot, Outlook 2007 decided it wants to connect to the internal mail server and prompts for username and password. I then have to close outlook and reconfigure again.

Please can someone help, this is driving me nuts

    Not enough info!
What is the internal domain called, what is the external domain called?
What e-mail addresses are configured for the internal users as Primary.
Do you have autodiscover records set up in your DNS?
    TIA

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

this is an autodiscover issue, as teiger pointed out.

      OL2007 will use autodiscover.domain.com

within AD, I think it also uses SRV records.
So get your autodiscover entry pointing to the external server ,and ensure there are no SRV records internally... should fix it :_)

        Can you help me please?

        1. Where do i find the SRV records and how do I change it please?

        Thank you.

          Re: SBS 2011 - Outlook 2007 Issue

You have been given wrong information above.
In the domain it doesn't use SRV records, it uses SPN. These come directly from the domain and will be what is overriding the Exchange configuration.

If Exchange 2010 is installed then it is going to be quite difficult to override it.
You could try removing the Exchange part, but I think that might still get in the way.

I would actually go as far as to say that SBS 2011 was probably the wrong server choice. Given what you are doing, a standard Windows 2008 R2 server would have been a more appropriate choice.

          Simon.

It can be done, you have to modify the domain.
