  • CAL's exchange and more

    Hello,
I am currently using SB 2003 and thinking of upgrading to SB 2011.
I have a few questions bad would really appreciate if some can help me out.
This is a small 10 userís office (synagogue)

    1. Is there anything I should know or be aware?
    2. How difficult is the migration process?
    3. Do I need to purchase separate CAL's or does it come with 75 seats
    4. Witch version of exchange it comes with (I assume 2011)?
    5. My users love Office 2003 and donít want to upgrade. Will I have any problems running Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2011?
    6. Is these good enough specs for a new server or do you think its overkill?

Thank you very much in advance !

    Re: CAL's exchange and more

The answers in order of the questions you asked:
    1. Always! Read the documentation and the sites. Use "SBS 2003 to 2011 migration" as your keywords
    2. If you have never done it - fairly difficult. Having done it a few times, it becomes relatively routine. Conclusion: do a few practive runs in Virtual Machines to familiarise yourself with the process.
    3. SBS 2011 as with most MS server products includes 5 CALs. You will need to purchase an additional 5 CALs to make up your minyan (10 users). The maximum you can use is 75 CALs.
    4. Exchange 2010 - there is no Exchange 2011!
    5. There is no problem as such running Office 2003. It is just that shortly it will be out of support and you will not have features like Outlook Anywhere or 2 Outlook accounts in the same profile available. I would purchase the licenses for 2010, even if I use 2003.
    6. That server seems fine though I would push for 18GB of RAM if I could get it.
