  • Hyper-V on a SBS 2011 server

Hi everyone, I install SBS 2011 standard, and at my surprise I was able to install hyper-v roles, ( I have not yet try to install a VM ) The ISO was downloaded from Technet, I will like to know if the premium add-on will be available on TechNet too, if not can I use another copy of 2008 r2 make it a second DC add install hyper-v role in it.

    Thanks, Gerard

Ok I found the answer, you can install hyper-v but it's not supported

Several services do not work correctly if you install Hyper-V on SBS .IIRC DHCP is one of them. Hyper-V on SBS; not supported and not licensed.

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

Of course I will not use it on a production server; I was just surprise when I look at the roles to see it. So many web site and forum said that you can't install Hyper-v instead of say it's not supported

For now I’m finishing my setup
ISP -> TMG(for replace my ISA) ->SBS 2011 and then I have an Hyper-V server with SCVMM and a files server with DC and a ESXi

For now my SBS and TMG Hyper-v and ESXi are working, it’s my second DC that make me worry, I never use a second DC with SBS, so I’m not exactly sure of the best way to add it to the domain

To add a seond server to the SBS domain first UTFW (http://connect) then DCPromo.
