  • NTBACKUP Slow

    Hi guys,

I've just setup NTBACKUP, it all runs well but the problem I'm facing is that, it is taking up to 12 hours to backup a five user site. I had a look at the logs and it says that it is taking longest on the Exchange databases.

    Code:

    Operation: Backup
    Active backup destination: File
Media name: "FullDailyBackup.bkf created 20/04/2011 at 10:00 PM"
Backup (via shadow copy) of "C: "

There is no way that the exchange databases are 340GB! The whole exchange folder including the databases are just over 6GB. See below.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: NTBACKUP Slow

Are the databases and transaction logs in C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr? Confirm that they are being included in that 6.23GB.

You may want to look at moving those out of the Program Files directory, particularly the possibility of separating logs and databases onto separate disks or arrays for performance and resiliance.

      Everything is in there, yes.

The client is getting a new server within the next couple of months so I just wanted to sort this out.

Any ideas as to why it's showing up in ntbackup so large?

You need to learn to read better! 340GB and 10.5 hours plus is the C: Drive
Exchange starts as Backup set #2 after that!
Not much I can add at this point....
