  • inheriting permissions from it parent

    Hello folks

I'm a new to the windows server setup. Having been a linux engineer for the last 6 years & i need some help on inheriting permissions from it parent.

I've created a folder on the server and i only want selected users to access it. If i right click the folder and go to security and try and remove the group users i get You cannot remove "users (myserver\users)" because this object is inheriting permissions from it parent.

If i move the folder to the server desktop i can setup access for each user but this isn't idea.

Any help would be appreciated for a newbie to windows.

    Cheers

You need to go one step further:
    Go to Security
    Go to Advanced
    Untick "inherit permissions from parent"
    Select "copy existing permissions"
    Then edit the permissions
