Re: Using SBS2008 to send mail from scanner

This blog post talks about adding a Receive connector for just one specific IP.

Also, the Exchange Antivirus can trip you up. Even when you get the Receive connector working correctly, the Exchange antivirus feature could still block the incoming email from the scanner/fax. You may need to put some kind of key word in the Content Filter to allow the email from the scanner/fax to come through.

Re: Using SBS2008 to send mail from scanner

The way I setup my clients for when they have a devices that sends email is to setup a separate receive connector that only allows the devices' IP addresses to connect to it. Use the following settings:

Permissions Group tab - only check Exchange Server
Authentication tab - only select Externally Secured

Warning - this is an open relay for any IP address specified in the remote IP section of the Network tab so be sure to limit it to secured devices.

Also, when you configure the receive connector as specified above, DO NOT configure SMTP authentication on your device or it will fail to connect to the Exchange server.

Re: Using SBS2008 to send mail from scanner

If you setup the receive connector as I specified then the issue is on the device not in Exchange.

Make sure the device is configured with the proper SMTP server (i.e. the Exchange server's IP address) and make sure SMTP authentication is disabled.
