  • Windows 2000 SBS + Adding a Windows 2003 Server

    Please could you help with a suggestion for the below migration to Windows 2003;

    An existing Win2k SBS Server (DC) on its last legs to be replaced with a new server, installed with Windows 2003.

    My theory;

    Run ADPREP on the Windows 2000 SBS to upgrade the schema to accept a Windows 2003 DC

    Transfer the FSMO roles from the SBS to the Windows 2003 Server.

    Move the shares and folders over.

    DCPROMO the SBS to remove AD from the server.

    The old server I planned to DCPROMO and use it as a legacy mail server.

    Thanks

    After the migration you should shutdown the old SBS and it cant be use as mail server etc.
