  • OWA exchange connection problem

First of I'm new to all things sbs 2008 .

My problem at the moment is, I am not able to send or receive email messages to clients internally or externally with OWA.

My SBS system is a straight walk through install and the SBS console has been completed just fine as far as I can tell. Only admin task i had to complete during install was router ports and DNS MX record changes at ISP.

I don't think this is the area of fault since I cant send email internally to other user and I'm sure ports are open on router and isp MX records are correct:!

When i first logged into OWA with my admin account I use to get system check emails .. but they have stopped.

Don't know what has changed since and not sure how to find the source of the problem since no error messages appear . All my patches are up to date and installed

Any help in identifying the source of the problem would be much appreciated

Have you completed the wizard to configure the server for the internet - with your external domain name? Are all of the Exchange services running?

If you send an email from an external source to the server, does the message bounce? Does it show in message tracking?

Yes did the internet connection wiz as much as i could except for the port opening and dns settings , which i had to complete myself as my router and DNS provider arn't MS compatable to allow sbs to change them..

I have sent from an external email adress to an internal account but it never arrives in the account and i never get acknologment/bounceback that it failed to senders account.

I have sent tracking just the now and still not recieved anything back.

with regards to the services, Im sure they are all up and running, as i have compared them to the default list of exchange services required with list supplied from sbs deva (why not to press default settings on sbs services topic)

All i can say is when you send from owa it just automaticly saves it in the template folder , never sends and nothing gets recieved in any account...

      Somethings very a miss here

Do you mean they go in to the Drafts folder? There isn't a templates folder that I am aware of.
If so, that is usually an indication that transport isn't running. Check the Microsoft Exchange Transport service is running.

Verify that you can connect to the server on port 25 using telnet.
I would also check using some of the online tools that the Internet can connect to your server.

Running the fix my network wizard might also help the issue.

Yip, spot-on dude, looks like I confused the exchange transport logging with exchange transport , as the two look the same (if you don't have your tab fully stretched opened ) . . Double checked again this morning and noticed it straight away, only the logging service was started.

Will have to check out why the transport service failed to start automatic now , but at least I will have an event log on that issue

          thanks again Dude

I find the transport service has issues when your running at less than 12% drives space left on the volume which holds your logs.
