  • The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted

    Hi All,

We are running a SBS 2011 Standard server, a few weeks ago all of the Windows 8.1 machines asked to authenticate to access mapped network drives when you are signed in. I tried to trouble shoot the issue with no luck. I removed the machine from the domain and received the error "the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" however it joins the domain and after the reboot you can log in to the mapped drives, but when you restart again the problem is back you have to enter your credentials and password again to access mapped drives, it only works after the first reboot when the machine is joined to the domain.

Here is a few thing I have tried?
1 - checked that the dns server address is correct
2 - tried to join the domain with a static IP address
3 - manually added the DNS server address in the NIC

If anybody has any suggestions, please assist.

Is there anything in te event logs on the SBS server? (System, security, application?)
    Are all appropriate services running?
Are drives mapped using GPP or Login scripts?
