  • Additional Domain Controller server 2008 with DFS

SBS 2008 was installed successfully (DC1).
Then, installed server 2008 standard and promote to DC using dcpromo and was successful too (DC2).
DNS was installed successfully as AD-integrated for both DC1 and DC2. (Checked DNS on both DC1 and DC2 and look identical)
    Both are GC servers.

Installed DFS on both DCs, set up was successul.
When both DCs are up and running, all looks good, DFS namespace and replication works fine.
But when DC1 was disconnected / unavailable, on DC2, DFS management Consolde, received error "\\domain.local\Namespace: The namespace cannot be queried. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted".
Still on DC2, for example, if i open Group Policy Management Console, I received message "The specified domain controller could not be contacted. This affects the following domain in the console. Domain: domain.local. The error was: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Please choose from the following options:

    choose a different domain controller

    retry

remove this domain from the console.
Ping test to all domain controllers and domain name results OK.
Nslookup looks fine. DCdiag seems fine with some warnings related to root hints and ipv6.

    Please advise. Thank you.[

    Hi welcome to this forum.

I did the famous goole trick and it gave me http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...02(WS.10).aspx

So i think it is wise to follow these guidelines first so that you are sure that you configure it correctly.
    hope this will help

      Thanks mhoogev,

I have read that article, and my installation procedures was similar.
The installation was successful without any errors.

The system works perfectly fine when both DC1 and DC2 are connected.
      Hence DFS working fine too.
However, once I disconnect DC1 (the PDC) for testing purposes,
DC2 goes funny with the errors mentioned in my first post.

But, on the other hand, the client computers that are connected to the same site as DC2,
they still works. They can browse the DFS namespace without problem, they can be authenticated, login fine, etc.

      Is this normal? by design?
Shall I just ignore those errors mentioned in my first post?

      Again, thanks a lot.

Do you have event errors like this?

        Event Type: Error
        Event Source: DfsSvc
        Event Category: None
        Event ID: 14530
