  • Branch Office File Replication issues

    Environment:
    Main office: SBS 2003 R2 (SP2)

    Branch Office (3 users): 2003 R2 (SP1 -- will be upgrading to SP2 later)
This is a DC and AD appear to be OK on both

Connectivity: ADSL with router-router vpn, about 830kbps outbound

There are about 15Gb of files that I would like to synchronise between offices. Unfortunately SBS does not support DFS-R so I have had to fall back to FRS and am getting all sorts of issues with replication hanging or slow. Main problem as far as I can see is the 2003 server goes into JournalWrap and blocks everything in both directions.

Any suggestions -- upgrade to 2008 is not really an option at this point but I am getting tempted!

Is this the initial 15GB synch causing problems or are all the files already transferred and it is the increments that are causing problems? I know SBS doesn't do DFS-R, but are all 15Gb of files changing daily as only changed files need to synch.
    TIA

Relatively small daily changes (<50mb) -- it is the initial sync that is causing problems

So is there no chance to seed the synch - transfer the data to the branch by sneakernet (copy it on a USB disk, drive to the branch and copy it to the required location)?
        TIA

I actually tried that, and it moved it into NTFRS_PreExisting (or similar name) and started copying the whole damn lot again
