Did you delete it using the Exchange Management Console? Does it still exist in there at all?

yes it was deleted from the Exchange Management Console,
its no longer there. also tried to do an LDAP search
        but it's gone.
I deleted it in the morning but until now it is still
        somewhere.

You could look at the Lost/Found folder (think it is still around and called that) Go to AD Users and Computers and View - Advanced Options. Additional containers will then appear. It would at least give you an idea if it is still hanging around in AD. Failing that, you could look into using ADSI edit to completely remove it but it is always risky, so to be used as a last resort and ensure a system state backup is carried out first-of-all.

does the item it belongs to still exist in AD?
\You mention that you've deleted the item from EMC, but not wherther the actual parent object still exists in AD?

You also haven't mentioned how long since you deleted the item..

Another frequently used trick is to open Outlook on a domain computer and insert the [email protected] address into a new mail. Click on Resolve Names (or Ctrl-K) and see if the name gets underlined with some entity from your AD. You can then edit that entity to remove the address from there.
Also check out if you can manually update the address generator.
              TIA
