  • User Roles

    Dear All,

    I have two related questions:

    1) I would like to ask if the concept of "User Roles" is a new addition particular to SBS 2008 ? (i.e. but is not used in Windows 2008 Server AD)

    2) I recall as early as NT 4 that the efficient way to allocate security rights was

Users go into Global Groups, Global Groups go into Domain Local Groups, and Domain Local Groups are listed on the Access Control List (ACL) of the resource.

Where does the "User Role" fit into this ?

    Thanks,

    Re: User Roles

Think of "user roles" in SBS as being account templates with standard groups assigned:

The AGULP strategy you already know is still valid

      Thanks for quick reply,

If I understand correctly then, they are a feature particular to SBS and which isn't available in a regular AD domain?

        Re: User Roles

You have always been able to create template users but I think this extends it quite a lot more, so yes

Remember, if there is a wizard, then UTFW first.
          You can always AGULP afterwards
