  • Backup error SBS 2003

    Hi there

When I use the wizard to perform a backup , I get the following error
"The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found."
Microsoft says be sure that the Exchange Information Store is running
The Exchange Information Store is running
A normal backup with Ntbackup works fine

    Thanks in advance

In SBS 2003 there is in the managementtool an option to perform a backup from the system . Microsoft recommends to use that method But when I use thet I get the script.bks error

Is there an error posted in the Event Viewer?
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.
        1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
        2 2 1 1 2

Yes In the event viewer it's the following messages

NTBackup error: 'The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.'

          The log file says

Have a look at the following and see if that is of any help. http://msmvps.com/obts/archive/2005/03/06/37767.aspx
            1 1 was a racehorse.

              Re: Backup error SBS 2003

              For futher info look at:
              http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...SBS.htm#backup

Backup fails, reporting "'Script.bks' file not found."
Cause: The Exchange Information Store is not running.

Solution: Start the Exchange Information Store.

To start the Exchange Information Store

Click Start, click Run, and then type Services.msc.
In the details pane, right-click Microsoft Exchange Information Store, and then click Start.
              Cause:

A folder explicitly marked to be included in the backup is not on the system.
The Small Business Backup Script has been deleted or is corrupted.
The UNC path you are backing up to does not exist or is inaccessible.
Solution: Re-run the Backup Configuration Wizard from the Backup snap-in in Server Management, accepting the defaults to reset.
              TIA

                Hi there

The Exchange Information Store was running

I found this on the internet

The issue can also be caused by the incorrect content of the “script.bks” file. Open the Small Business Backup Script.bks file with the notepad. If you see:
                JET SERVERNAME\Microsoft Information Store\Recovery Storage Group\ ,
this problem will appear because NTbackup is not able to back up the Recovery Storage Group either via the script or directly via the NTbackup GUI. To correct it, you can use NTbackup to remove Recovery Storage Group reference from the backup selection script:

I removed the line JET SERVERNAME\Microsoft Information Store\Recovery Storage Group\ and now it's working

                Thanks all

What I cannot understand it why do you need the exchange service started. My situation is that we do ot use the exchnge server and when it services are started it will consume a lot of wated resources
