  • My DNS Configuration

    Hello,

    I seem to have problems with my DNS configuration as every so often (about once a week) clients lose internet connection forcing me to restart the DNS server within services.

    Can anyone suggest why this might be happenening..? If not I am going to need some sort of easy procedure for others to restart the DNS if I am not available.

    Cheers,

    Dave

      You could even Schedule it to run in the early hours of the morning when nobody is online.
      1 1 was a racehorse.
      2 2 was 1 2.
      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
      2 2 1 1 2

        Re: My DNS Configuration

        Thanks guys,

        Just for anyone else having the same problem, I created a batch file in NOTEPAD called restart_dns.bat reading as follows:

        Code:
        @echo off
        NET STOP DNS
        NET START DNS
        @echo on
        I then created a task in the Windows System Sheduler that ran that script every morning at 08:00. I have just implemented it but am hopeful that this will clear up the problem in the long term.

          That is like the solution I temporarily implemented to solve s print spooler problem - it is a plaster(band-aid) without solving the underlying problem.
          Does you DNS have forwarders or is it using root-hints? Dees your ISP have reliable DNS? Anything in the Event logs?
          TIA

              In addition to what Mackem asked above, are you based in the UK? There was/is an issue with DNS and some ISPs and some servers in the UK. IIRC there is info on it in the SBS Blog
              More specifically http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive...ike-co-uk.aspx
