  • Joining a PC to SBS 2003 Domain across a VPN connection

    Good afternoon all,

I have a client based remote to my office. He has a number of sites across Europe, each running individual SBS 2003 Networks. For ease of sharing, and for telephone communications, we have a series of VPNs running between sites - which generally works very well.

Generally, if we need to join PCs to any of the domains, we can plug into a firewall in our own office, and use http://<ipaddress>/connectcomputer.

We have a new site (not comissioned by us) running SBS2003 Standard - in French (just to add a little complexity!). When we try to connect to this site using "connectcomputer", we receive error 403.6, access denied because of the IP address range.

I've looked at the IIS Settings, and the company who implemented the server have "All computers will be granted access" set.

Looking at the other sites around Europe I find that I can connect to each individual server in the correct manner, so I suspect that it is something local to this particular server.

Can anyone let me know a workaround to allow a different subnet to "see" or access the remote site please?

    Many thanks,

    Gus Lynch

      Hi Steven,

Many thanks for your response. That worked a treat - though I was a little concerned that I wasn't UTFW.

Still don't understand the restriction of IP addresses in IIS, but it's not going to be a regular occurence installing clients to this site remotely.

      A virtual pint for yourself...

In SBS you must always UTFW - except when you don't
