Re: remove wsus from sbs 2008

In one word - NO! Turn off the services and the Group policy for WSUS. TS doesn't interfere - just don't use it.
    Now the question is WHY?

Much easier to use WSUS on SBS - turn it off on the file server! You also get a simplified status report that can help you concentrate on more important IT tasks. The familiar MMC and interface is still there if you need to dig deeper.
        TIA

          hi teiger

          about wsus
it seems to be much easer
but the the options on it are very few
          we must use all product
well i dont use visio in my organition
          and also other product
          so it seems so poor

          thanks

Re: remove wsus from sbs 2008

You know you can control which updates WSUS checks for, also you dont need to download updates for products you dont use

IMHO the benefits of having a patch management service far outweigh those minor inconveniences you speak of

If you are wanting to quickly get up to speed with all the new functios in SBS 2008 then Train Signal's SBS 2008 Lab is the one for you. http://www.trainsignal.com/Small-Bus...ining-P78.aspx The intro discount may still be available but you will need to check on that.

also you dont need to download updates for products you dont use

                    that isnt right at all
in sbs 2008 wsus you cant exclude products from updates

Re: remove wsus from sbs 2008

Although I have to post a disclaimer that I have not used WSUS with SBS 2008, I have used it with Server 2008 in a lot of environments.
If you look at the 5th picture in the link you posted, it shows you have an option for all products or selected products and AFAIK there is no reason you cannot deselect some -- clearly in SBS 2008 you would not be downloading updates for server 2000!

                        just to make it clear

                        about the 5th picture

well actually it say that in order to
get SBS 2008 to "fix" managing WSUS after you have manually upset it

                        is to
Make sure "All Products" has been ticked

                          Ah -- bloody MS again
WHY on earth would you want to download updates for products you dont use?
                          SBS 2003 is different

Still, you only need to approve "needed" updates (again SBS might have changed the rules) so the total downloaded will still be smaller than it could be
