  • SBS 2008 Will not Send Emails to External Users. IDIOT Guide Please

I have installed SBS 3 times using default settings. Everything works EXCEPT emails to external users just sit in the QUE and never gets delivered. Internal users get theirs right away.

    Here is my setup;
    Server name = server1: Ip = 192.168.2.170
    Domain is: Testdomain.
    Maili server with hoster: mail.mydomain.com

We already have an existing domain and website. Our emails are currently delivered to our webhoster. We use Outlook to download emails and send emails out.
So what I want is to be able to SEND AND RECEIEVE emails from external users.
I have tried to use POP3 connector, but when I did that, I was able to download emails from mailboxes located in our web hosters, BUT STILL NOT ABLE TO SEND.
The Error I get is "Not able to relay for [email protected]".
What am I doing wrong? Must I use one of the recomended hosters listed during setup for it to work?
Our webhoster has done all the MX and DNS stuff, but they said they don't believe the 192.168 .x.x will work and that I should get a static address.
How do I get this to WORK??
    thanks,
    yousaid

Re: SBS 2008 Will not Send Emails to External Users. IDIOT Guide Please

you need to have a smart host or other configured.
Using SBS2003/Ex03 I do it the following way:

Exchange system Manager > administrative groups > first administrative group > routing groups > first routing group > connectors > Small Business SMTP connector

under properties on this connector, on the general tab, I have ":forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts: mailserver.myisp.com"

i understand that SBS08/EX07 is different, but that should give you an idea - basically, you don't have an SMTP connector, or it's not setup properly..

Get someone who understands mail servers/SBS to help you. You can lookon the Internet via microsoft.com for a Small Business Specialist - even one in your area. If you use Outlook to download your mail from your webhost/ISP then you don't need Exchange. If you want to use Exchange fully then either start off by using the POP3 connector and sending out through the smarthost that is responsible for your domain, or get someone who knows how to set up SMTP to help you.

        Hi,

Hope I'm not too late. Just registered to try and help out here.

I have a question. Have you run the Internet Address Management Wizard? This is available from the Home tab in SBS Console.

It sounds like you don't have a Send Connector present in Exchange 2007 and tehcamel is right, "basically, you don't have an SMTP connector, or it's not setup properly.." .
You'd need this for outgoing mails.

The IAMW should automatically create a Send Connector for you. If it doesn't, please let me know I'll help you create one manually. But just run this wizard correctly and check first.

        All the best,
        Ching

            Hello,
Thank you very much for the warm welcome. But, I'm still not able to figure out where I went off topic. Maybe I'm still too young here. Help me make my future posts more useful and accurate please.
