  • Remote Desktop - Windows Server 2003 Standard

I would like to be able to control my home pc running Win2k3 Server Standard but can't get it going.

I have on my home pc Terminal Server running and as well in the properties of MyComputer the Remote enabled.

I have even tried to get the VPN started but can't seem to connect.

    I would appreciate any assistance.

Where are you trying to control it from? Inside your home network or outside it?

      2 2 was 1 2.

        Thanks for the replies.

I am trying to control from outside of my network.

I will go to the site now and see what it is about.

        thanks.

          Site is for XP

          The site is for XP.

If anyone knows from the first step to the last on how to enable this I would appreciate it.

          1. I have enabled the remote in the system properties.
          2. I have enabled terminal services & terminal services certificate.
          3. IIS is obviously running and as well I have gone into the properties of the tsweb to make sure anonymous login is enabled.
          4. When I go into the properties of the tsweb it shows port 80. Is that the port I should let my router know to not block or is there another port?
          5. I try to remote my home pc via another pc that is at work or lets say a friends.

            update

My router doesn't have the firewall enabled.
When I try to connect from the outside world it doesn't allow me.
As well how do I try to connect from my own pc to see if it works internally?

Download and install remote desktop software and give it a go. If you can't figure it out post back with questions. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...dclientdl.mspx

                I don't think people understand.

My problem is I want to make sure I have set it up properly.

I know about the software to use to connect.

I have tried the software and it does not work.

                thanks.

Enable the firewall on your router. Setup a Port Forward on 3389 to the machine you want to remote desktop.

                    Blocked Ports

Also check with your ISP to make sure they aren't blocking any ports. For example in Canada if you are on TELUS and you aren't using their business account most of the ports will be blocked (at least the ones you would normally use).
