  • Remotely joining SBS 2003 Domain PROBLEM!

I am trying to join an XP laptop (windows reinstalled) remotely but I'm getting errors!
I have created a vpn from the laptop to the server but when I try to join the laptop to the domain I get:

A domain controller for the domain xxxxxx.local could not be contacted
    error code 0x000005B4 ERROR_TIMEOUT

I have also noticed an event id of 7062 in the event viewer for the dns server

    (not using connectcomputer)

I have read quite a few posts but not too sure how to diagnose this properly!

I found this when running dcdiag:

    DCDIAG:
    Doing initial required tests
    Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\SERVER
    Starting test: Connectivity
    The host c1fb7e90-5497-49db-b206-a270a49ae14a._msdcs.xxxxxx.local could
    not be resolved to an
IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc
    Although the Guid DNS name
    (c1fb7e90-5497-49db-b206-a270a49ae14a._msdcs.xxxxxx.local) couldn't be
resolved, the server name (SERVER.xxxxxx.local) resolved to the IP
address (10.0.0.1) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is
registered correctly with the DNS server.
    ......................... SERVER failed test Connectivity

    And this when running netdiag

    DCDIAG:
    Doing initial required tests
    Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\SERVER
    Starting test: Connectivity
    The host c1fb7e90-5497-49db-b206-a270a49ae14a._msdcs.xxxxxx.local could

    Thanks....

    Netdiag
    Should have been:

    DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
[WARNING] The DNS entries for this DC cannot be verified right now on DNS
    server 10.0.0.1, ERROR_TIMEOUT.
[FATAL] No DNS servers have the DNS records for this DC registered
