  • SBS 2003 Prem R2 Backups causes reboot

i have a strange problem. shortly after a back up is executed either manually or scheduled the server will reboot with no BSOD and no event written. the only indication that a reboot has taken place is the UNPLANNED (other) explanation window just before login.
there's plenty of space on the drivers. only 3 users on the machine. Symantec AV is up to date and has detected no problems even in safe mode.
its a typical SBS 2003 setup (i.e. exchange, sharepoint, shared docs).

the machine hardware is TA790GX A2+, AMD ATHLON 64 X2 Dual core 6600, 4gb RAM.
only additional hardware in a Trendnet NIC.

if anyone has a clue or has seen this before i sure can use some assistance.

what software are you using to backup your system, and what are you backing up to ?

I would suggest running memory diagnostics as a starting point

A hard boot like that would make me initially think of a hardware issue. What are you backing up to?
