  • takes to log too login to SBS2003 from winxp

    Hello,

    another question for u gurus.

ive setup a sbs2003 with 4 users. Initially logging on to the server from the pc was quick.

what i have found since i have finished installing all necessary software on each pc to login to the server (print drivers, mapped drives etc) is that it can take up to 4minutes after they enter their password for their desktop to appear (a splash stays on their screen saying laoding personal settings).

i have set dns on all pc's to the server (192.168.0.2) and the router as the alternate (might be the other way around).

can anyone advise on how to quicken up the login?

    Cheers

Well first make sure your server is your primary DNS entry... helps speed things up a little. Now are you using roaming profiles? They can be slow. Have you tried rebuilding a workstation and trying to logon using that? Have you got an upto date virus checker running? How long does the domain admin take to login to one of the workstations?

I have the exact same problem

Also i have another issue.... if a client computer is left on over nite youhave to restart the machine before you can gain access to the server again.. anyone know what i need to do to disable this function so users can leave their machines on over nite?

fix first you're dns issue.. if that is fixed, maybe the problem with you're clients are also fixed.

There is an issue with SMB signing, which basically you don't need. lookup
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=139 and/or check that you don't have too many group policies per user/computer combination. All these things can slow down logon.
