  • Using SBS 2003 as standalone exchange server

    Hi Guys

A friend of mine has asked me to install an exchange server into his office which currently has a Unix DC managed by a third party.

Is it possible to use SBS 2003 as a standalone exchange server? And just add the serve to the UNIX domain for user authentication.

    Thanks in advance

This is not supported by SBS 2003. SBS must be a domain controller, it must hold all of the FSMO roles and there must only be one domain on the network, although you can add extra domain controllers to the SBS domain. To do what you want you will need to buy licences for Windows Server and Exchange, plus the relevant CALs.
