  • Reinstall SBS 2003 after upgrade server with more RAM and more HD storage.

    Hi there everyone,

This is my first post here I hope there is someone out there for being my guide in the following.

We have a server SBS 2003 SP2 with the following specs:
    HP ML370 G4 Intel Xeon
    4 x 72 GB installed with RAID 5 array

C: drive (read partition) has just 50 MB free
D: drive used for page file
E: drive used for data storage and programs
    1024 MB of RAM

Users have been complaining of slow server performance etc etc.

    Questions:

    - I like to install more RAM (think this is no problem)
    - I want to re-arrange the partitions especially the C drive, how can this be done?
    - I like to start with a fresh install of SBS 2003 keeping in mind that I want to keep al the users credentials and userrights, all the exchange users folders, all the sharepoint icompanyweb, etc etc (may be restoring a backup onto the fresh restore??)

Is there e hero out there?

    Thanks in advance!!

More RAM would definitely help I would make this number 1 priority.

If you are going to restore from backup then there is no point doing a fresh install as you just bring all the stuff back. Personally I wouldn't go down that route.

    C:
-you can delete the backups of the windows updates in the windows directory.
-you can empty the software distribution/download folder.
    -empty temp directory(s)
-remove "extra" admin profiles, if there are any, in Documents and Settings.
    -defrag the drives.
-Move your page file onto another drive.
-How big are the mailboxes? Are there limits?

Is there AV on the box? Where is in installed into? Is there a large DB for that?

    Is the box fully patched?
    cheers
    Andy
