  • RDP not working on sbs 2003

I have just returned from a short break and I cannot connect to my SBS 2003 server via remote desktop!

I can login find form the actual machine and I have checked all services are running fine.

When I try to login from a RDP session it just accepts my password and looks likes its starting normally but then just sticks with the desktop back ground no start menu, icons. Basically I cant do anything.

Any Ideas were to start? I ma tearing my hair out!

    thanks

Re: RDP not working on sbs 2003

Are you talking about RDP from inside or outside the network? Check any firewalls and also any recent update patches to see if they affect the server.

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

But the Good News is, that with the help of MS, it's fixed. For the
benefit of the group, the issue was that during the installation of the
SP2 files, for whatever reason some files just don't get updated. One of
these is the termdd.sys file; turns out that the SP2 version had not
been copied to my Windows\System32\Drivers folder, and the older file
just doesn't work with the balance of the Sp2 install. Easy when you
      know...
Please note that this seems to relate to an SP2 install but might be worth checking.

        Thanks for the sugestions guys...

biggles77: SP2 was installed a long time age, although there were some windows updates applied recently. I will check if replacing that file has any effect.

teiger: The issues happens both inside and outside the network.

I will post back with an update when I try the above.

        thanks

Re: RDP not working on sbs 2003

              Really?

I would be wary of replacing a file on Server 2003 with one from XP workstation.

For the record my updated laptop with XP SP3 on it has termdd.sys version5.1.2600.5512 and my updated SBS server has termdd.sys version 5.2.3790.3959 on it.

And RDP works OK so it may be something else is causing your problem.
              TIA
