  • OWA and sharepoint on SSL

Is is possible, in my SBS 2003 server, to have both OWA and sharepoint use SSL port 443?

I have a sharepoint site that is accessed primarily from the internet, the users do not want to have to type in a port #. They also want to be able to use RPC over HTTPS for email, which requires that it use port 443 to exchange.

The server defaults to exchanges on 443, and sharepoint on 444. I have changed it to 443 for sharepoint, 444 for owa, since they use the sharepoint site to access owa and dont actually type it in manually, so it didnt matter that it had a port #. Problem is, now they want RPC over HTTPS. If i assign both sites to use 443 for SSL, it does not work.

From the outside, users use the following:

    sharepoint: https://office.domainname.com
    OWA: https://office.domainname.com:444/exchange

Is there a way for both to use 443? RPC over HTTPS will not work on another port, and users dont want to type the :444 for sharepoint

    Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to add another IP address to your network card properties and then setup each site to use 443 on a specific IP address rather than the any unassigned that is in there.
    cheers

Thats was my first thought, but I came accross a reference that doing this is not recommended on an SBS server, it will break the wizards and other aspects of sharepoint on an SBS server.

If this wont break the interoperability between SBS and sharepoint, I would do that, but its a production server, I dont want to mess around with it if im not sure.

Re: OWA and sharepoint on SSL

I have created a subdomian in my webhosting control panel for Share Point

like https://sharepoint.server.com:444 and for our users they just go to the link on company website and click the link .. it redirects them automaticly to Share Point ..

Beside this .. you are using SBS so they do not need to type the link .. they have to remeber only the main link to Remote Workplace which is only one link https://office.domainname.com in your case, they need to log in and access Share Point from here. You have to just make sure you run the wizard on SBS and enable access users to the Share Point from the Internet

This way they have everything under one roof -- Share Point and Exchange

Abakus is correct! Everything is handled securely by Remote Web Workplace (RWW). You get a log on screen which handles your credentials via SSL and other security checking (including certificates). You are then presented with a menu for both OWA and Sharepoint, as well as access to desktop computers. Just remember to open port 4125 on your router/firewall for RWW.
