  • SBS migration to 2003 STD - particularly exchange 2000 -> 2003

    Hello,

I am particularly going by this document:

    http://msexchange.org/tutorials/Migr...l?printversion

The thing is we have Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 SBS domain controller.

We are moving to 2003 DC with a separate DC and EX servers. Just like that document.

My question is we are moving from one domain to a new domain due to a company name change.

    My question is this.

Can I remove the old server from the old domain and attach it to the new domain?

And then 'replicate' the servers together so I can transfer mailboxes over?

I'm having a hell of a time doing it via Exmerge.

I also think it will solve the problem of having to reconfigure our 2003/2007 Outlook clients.

I assume I can leave the old server running and it will redirect the clients to the new server without any interaction from my part?

And then maybe like 1 month later I can remove the server?

How do I know all the Outlook clients will be pointed to the new Exchange server?

I was gonna go with PRF files and login scripts but that all too hard.

Otherwise I can stuff around with cname records and shared name space.

    Tony

    one other thing

the old server is also the gateway running ISA 2000

I guess changing domains and all that won't have an effect on things given all it does it route out 192.168.1.1 or .254 or whatever.

We intend to replace it with a h/w firewall.

If you have ever read any of my posts on the subject, you will know that i don't particularly like ExMerge, and try to avoid it. However, in this case, Idon't believe you have a better choice. Read some of Daniel's article such as:

      http://www.petri.com/brick_level_bac...ng_exmerge.htm

and practice ExMerge as many times as youneed to feel comfortable with it.
