    In the sharepoint database mainly.
    What sort of document are you talking about -- a page or a word document in a document library?

      I mean the users upload a word document per say. And where is the sharepoint DB located?

        Sharepoint uses two databases: a content database where content is stored and a configuration database where the configuration is stored. By default these databases are local to the Sharepoint server unless you change them.
