  • SBS WSSv3

    Hello,

I'm going to install WSSv3 to run along side the older companyweb on a sbs 03 box. I'll be following the guide microsoft provide.

I'd like to have the new WSS accessed via http://intranet similar to how http://companyweb goes to WSSv2. I have a feeling i'll need to set up a alias (cname) to get this working, but i'm not sure how to set up the IIS stuff. Getting WSSv3 to listen on port 80 etc.

    Many thanks for any help.

    Nathan

AFAIK, companyweb is just a host header in IIS and a CNAME in DNS. You could probably do the same for http://intranet - if it is really that important - but I have never tried it.

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

I'm assuming WSSv3 means Windows Sharepoint services version 3. If that's the case then you need to set up an Alternate Access Mapping in Sharepoint. Go to the Sharepoint configuration tool and go into operations and you'll find the alternate access mappings. You can alter and add alternate access mappings from there.

Hello again, sorry to be a pain.

I've been playing with the AAM's in sharepoint yet cant seem to get it working. Not too sure if its me, but they seem to be a pain in the arse.

I currently have the sharepoint running on http://servername:7131 and would like internal users to access it via http://intranet.

I'm guessing i need the public URL as http://intranet and http://server:7131 as the internal, but when i try to configure it like this i get and error saying there is an error trying to delete the intranet zone url.

        Thanks for any help.

It's been awhile since I looked at WSS but if I'm not mistaken the intranet URL is the default zone, so you have to set another URL as the default zone before you can remove the intranet URL.

thanks for te help so far. We now have http://intranet pointing to our new wss3 site. We need to get it publishing through isa 04 to the outside world.

I'm guessing theres going to be more config in the AAM and will have to do something with the headers.

We have a couple of external IP's we have IP1 that has all services currently going to our sbs box. We also have IP2 that we want to use on its own to point to the new wss3 site which is on the same sbs box.

Is there any advice someone can give me?

Doesn't help with ISA but you should be able to publish that as a standard web site. Or as WSS 2.0 was. Remember you can only have ONE site published via SSL if you have one IP address.
Remember also, as this article states you are OFF THE CHART as far as support is concerned. You had better know what you are doing as nobody will be in a position to support you. Last but not least, your wizards won't whizz and you will not be able to UTFW!
