  • Windows Firewall greyed out...

Just joined a new PC to a SBS 2003 - and the Firewall Options are greyed out on the PC - how do I turn it on so I can edit it. Must be a Default Group Policy?

It can be done by policy, so that could be it.
Is it disabled by default? No, it isn't.

It's a fresh install of sbs 2003 so that's why it's confusing as to why it'd be a policy.

Windows Firewall on XP SP2 is disabled by default on SBS 2003 networks...

There's an update available to enable / change windows firewall..

        check this MS site:

Actually the policy has two situations, controlled by the NLA (Network Level Awareness) service - which should be set to automatic. On domain where it is greyed out but you can still put in exceptions and Off domain where you have full control.
          A remarkably sensible policy IMHO.
          TIA

I applied the MS Fix and it didn't do anything..........this is a new PC - joined to a new domain.......has to be some default policy.

              I got it!!!

              It's Defaulted that way.

Server Mgmet > Advance Mgmt > Group Policy > right clice SBS Firewall > Edit > then browse to the Group Policy under Network Connections....

How is this different than using "gpedit.msc"? When I used gpedit.msc is was all set to "not configured" - but when I used the other way - it was set to enable.?.?
