  • Upgrade SBS 2000 domain to Windows 2003 domain

I currently have active directory installed on a Small Business Server 2000 server. This server needs to be replaced. I want to upgrade my domain to Windows 2003. I have a few member servers that are running 2003 already. how do I upgrade my active directory from SBS 2000 to Windows 2003?

Re: Upgrade SBS 2000 domain to Windows 2003 domain

If you upgrade from SBS 2000 to Windows 2003 you do realise that you will lose Exchange and so on? Windows Server 2003 does not have all the components that SBS 2000 has, so do you want to upgrade to SBS2003 instead?

If you wish to lose Exchange, and do as your post actually asks for, you can use the Active Directory Migration Tool see and search for ADMT on Google.

If you wish to keep Exchange, i.e. go SBS2000 -> sbs2003, see Google for many answers.

Also check out Swing Migration whether you want SBS2003 or Windows Server 2003.
Of course, with Windows 2003 you could always add Exchange 2003/2007 and the relevant number of CALs - in which case it is worthwhile looking at the Transition Pack from SBS.
