  • sbs restore

    hi all

    when restoring a server
i always pointed to the procedure of
installing the os with the same sp it has in the backup.

so in sbs i install the os
it has already the same sp as the backup
but i wonder what about exchange
i have a disk of sp3 of the exchange

    should it also be update?

    thanks a lot

    Re: sbs restore

Yes you should always restore to the same SP level of OS and applications.

      Re: sbs restore

      hi all

      i restore my sbs2000 about 10 times
in the last 2 restorating i expiriance a problem
      with the ms installer.

yhe machine could not accomplish install the diffrent
      hardware of the new machine.
and only in in safe mode it succeded.

      then it boot noramlly
yet cant install or uninstall or plug a new usb device
so i tried to install again ms installer in safe mode
      yet no luck.

there are some changes from restore to restore i made
yet cant point to specific one.

did any one have a clue?

      how do you do that?
should tou install the whole sbs components including domain name
and then restore the system from a backup
i did both. this and just the first disk of the os.

both restores get me to the same ms installer issue

      thanks

        Re: sbs restore

It would appear that you are restoring a driver that is incompatible with the different hardware if I understand you correctly.
Restoring to the same SP level is just that. If you restore the application separately from the data (eg Exchange) then install the app(Exchange standard), add the relevant SP (SP3) then restore the data.
        TIA
