  • external hard drive with sbs 2003

I would like to use an external usb hard drive with the SBS 2003 premium edition server for nightly backup. Will this work? If so, is there any particular make or model suggested. Many manufacturers say their drives will not work with servers!!! Don't get that since I will format the drive with ntfs and plug it into a usb port.

    Backup

    You can use:

Maxtor suite (case + hard disk) 160/200 GB 8 NB Cache with USB2 connector & 3 years of warranty.

I favorable using tapes for backups, but it cost more

    Good Luck,

I use a Maxtor OneTouchII with 300MB drive with 16MB of cache. I'm using the Firewire interface though it also has USB2. This drive has performed quite good. I use it with Cobian Backup to automate my backups on a daily basis. On a monthly basis I back the data up to DVD. That way I keep current backups at a reasonable price.
