  • SBS 2003 taking 2 hours to load

    Hi,

My SBS2003 is taking 2 hours to load the logon screen then another 2 hours to log in to it.

The only thing I did was change the domain name.

    What could be the problem?

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Andy,
Unfortunately I've no real experiece with SBS but have you tried renaming your Domain back to what it was originally? (If you made only one change undoing that change might help?)

Btw how did you rename it?

Changing the domain name is a pretty big deal - most people don't recommend it, and the process is meant to be a major undertaking. See http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=2054. So, the suggestion is to reinstall SBS.

Try undo what you did first before re-installing.
I realise it will take somplace between 4 and 8 hours but it could be less work in the long term, depending on how you renamed it.

Since you are 16 years old, I would suggest you trash it and do a complete reinstall. The practice will be a good experience and will give you the opportunity to plan and get it the way you want it this time.

If you have data on the setup, make sure you back that up BEFORE you blow it away.

You are a very lucky guy. At age 16 you are learning what took some of us years and years to learn. One of those things is not to use RENDOM or any such tool to rename a domain for a server which has Exchange on it (that includes SBS) without knowinf fully what you are doing. Jeff Middleton (The SwingIt! guru) says with a small number of stations like SBS, the effort required to rename the domain is insignificant compared to reinstalling SBS and I very much agree with him.
