  • w32time error

I'm running Windows SBS 2003 and almost every day I get the following error in my System Log:

The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 15 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

What can be done about that?

    Thanks in advance.

One thing that can be done about that is to GOOGLE THE DAMN ERROR MESSAGE!

    http://www.google.co.il/search?sourc...is+configured+

    How hard was it?

On the other hand if the above procedures have been taken and you still get the error we should be told about it and not left in the dark.

    Have a good day.

      Re: w32time error

You need to tell us if you are running original SBS, withSP1, with ISA 2000 or 2004. We also need to know what your time synch server is to be sure it is still functioning.
Apart from that, this error is quite benign as you can set the time manually on the server and all the workstations will synch to it and work correctly.

      From my PPC.......

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

larynx, the default setting for w32tm is to get time from time.windows.com. There are a lot of ppl having trouble getting time from that source since the DST change. You can use the w32tm /config options to change the time server you are using.

        w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:time-b.nist.gov,0x8 /syncfromflags:MANUAL
        net stop w32time
        net start w32time
        w32tm /resync

Here is a list of time servers if you don't like my example

larynx did not say that it ever has worked before. I think it is better not to make changes before we have some more information. We don't even know for sure on what host this event is shown, is "my System Log" the log on the Windows SBS 2003 server it self?
In the latter case - the first thing to check is whether NTP and DNS traffic is Allowed in the firewall for the server that runs the PDC-emulator role. Next is to check the structure:
          - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../26_s3wts.mspx
          - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042

            If you are in europe then go to a command prompt and enter the following commands;

            net stop w32time
            net time /setsntp:europe.pool.ntp.org
            net start w32time

That is the NTP server I use and never have a problem.
