  • Remote Access Problems

Hi - if anyone can help, please chip in.

My sbs server has 2 network interfaces and is connected directly to the ADSL gateway.

I have run the wizard, but I do not get access to anything from outside. Internally, all works well.

I am relativelty new to this, so can anyone suggest how to start troubleshooting this ?

    Thanks,

    Neil Mac

    Re: Remote Access Problems

Does your modem/router have the necessary ports open?

    25 SMTP
    443 SSL
4125 RWW are good for starters
Others if you have to are:
    80 HTTP
    110 POP3 ( not usually required)
    143 IMAP4 ( ditto)
    444 CompanyWeb Intranet
1723 PPTP along with GRE if modem/router supports it.

DOES your ISP allow connections on these ports also or does he block them
Try from remote to connect to your IP via TELNET <IP> <PortNo.> and see if you get a flashing cursor response in a CMD window.
    Those are the basics.

      Re: Remote Access Problems

      Hello,

I think you should start by pinging:
      • Your second Network interface,
      • Your default gateway
      • Any host on the remote subnet.

      More information is really welvomed.

Did you make sure your TCP/IP suite is working properly?
      Best regards,

        Re: Remote Access Problems

Has your ADSL connection been configured correctly. Correct username and password? Static IP or Dymanic?
Is the modem getting an IP from your ISP? Was the correct ISP DNS entered when you ran the Wizard?
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.
        1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
        2 2 1 1 2
