  • RDP protocol error 0x1104

I have a server running SBS 2003 with ISA 2004. In the past remote desktop was accessible from the internal and external network adapters. There was another tech that no longer works for my company that was supporting the server so I dont know what he would have changed if he changed something that is causing this error.

When I try to connect to the server through RDP I get a protocol error of 0x1104. I get this from internal or external it dosent matter. The server has all of the latest MS updates and it has been rebooted. I ran TCPview to see if another process was trying to hijack port 3389 but I didnt even see 3389 listed. I ran a netstat -an I see port 3389 listening. I can telnet to port 3389 as well. There are no relivent entries in the event log as well.

Are you using the updated RDP client? You say SBS 2003 updated ,but do you have SP1 installed on it? Does the web inbterface work?
    TIA

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

I have used multiple versions of the RDP client to connect with no luck. The server is running SP1 with all updates since SP1 installed. I have not tried the web interface yet.

        Does http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898060 help?

If not, I may move this thread over to the Terminal Services thread becasue most of what I have searched shows this happening on regular servers as well and not something SBS specific.
        TIA

Damn, I looked at the KB number and I was certain my one was different. (Sorry) Really must get new glasses. (I must ask my niece in Givatayim to make me some.) And you win it by more than a hair. Daniel has my photo that shows the extreme lack of growth in that area.

                Re: RDP protocol error 0x1104

I figured it out. Thanks to everyone that put in their two cents. It ended up being ISA that was blocking RDP from working. I reinstalled ISA and all is good.

Good to know you got it working, but are you sure about reinstalling ISA. Have you reinstalled it in a way that the CEICW will still configure it. You may need to re-install ISA SP1 and part of the SBS SP1 to get the full functionality back.
                  TIA

I was able to get CEICW to run and configure ISA. I didnt have to reinstall ISA sp2.
