  • Disable My Documents redirection on one computer?

I have My Documents redirection running fine for the computers in house. There is one computer that many people use on and off and I would like to disable the redirection from happening on this computer. Is there any way to do this?

I would assume to create an OU and add this computer to that then create a GPO for that OU? What should I change in the policy to make this work?

    Any ideas?

My initial thought is Loopback Processing with replace. Take a look at the link. Post back and let us know how it goes or if you have any questions.

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.

Tried, but no go. Here is what I did..

          Created new OU
Moved the computer into that OU
Created and Linked a Group Policy
          -Loopback Processing: Enabled - Replace
-Folder Redirection: My Documents - Not Configured (I didn't see a disable option)

The computer didn't seem any different than before. Forced a GPUpdate and rebooted also.

            TIA

Pretty cool tool! I'll have to check it out when the computer comes back. Is Loopback replacing the Group Policy with the one on the computer then? If so should I edit the group policy with the local editor on that computer?

What loopback processing does is merge or replaces the User Configuration of the GPO linked to the user with the User Configuration of the GPO linked to the computer.

Anything configured with the local editor will be overwritten by any of teh domain policies AFAIK.

Re: Disable My Documents redirection on one computer?

Sorry it took so long to get back about this.

The computer in question, a laptop, took an extended trip to China in which our owner lost the power cord and then dried up the battery. BTW if you need a power cord and not the adapter from Dell, I would recommend Mouser.com. Dell wanted $20+ship for just the power cable without the adapter. Got two for $12 shipped from Mouser.

                    Anyway...

Got it working with LoopBack Processing. I hadn't realized that the OU was inheriting the Redirection GPO (Which was set to Enforced). After removing the Enforced flag and the inherited GPO everything worked great!

Learning alot about GPOs and this helped me solve some other problems that I had with this laptop also.

                    Thanks to everyone involved!

                    -Dan
