  • sbs2003 client access license activation

    hi,
i own sbs2003 standard edition with 5 cals (oem).
    i ordered another 5 packs of 5 licenses (25).

i ordered it from a big company.
they sent me several CD's of sbs2003 premium (not standard).
and a certificate saying that my licenses are registered in microsoft.
i can see them in e-open.

im trying to add these licenses to my sbs but i can't.

    am i doing something wrong?

i looked in the event log and saw "faulting application activation.exe version 0.0.0.0 faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0 fault address 0x000b9f98" application error, category 100, event id: 1000, computer: dc

    Best regards,
    Or.

I think someone stuffed up. You should (from my limited experience with SBS CALs) have been sent the COA certificates with the usual 25 charactor MS number which is then entered into the "CAL wizard". These certificate/stickers are then affixed to the side of the SBS server.

Steven or another SBS installer will be able to confirm this (or tell you I am full of it). Sorry, I installed SBS a long time ago and that is about as accurate as my memory is about the CALs.

    2 2 was 1 2.

If these are Volume Licenses, then you do, in fact go to http://eopen.microsoft.com, login with a passport license (remember or make a note of which one) and enter the license number and agreement number. This will give you access to all your licenses including the (25-digit) codes necessary to enter in to your server.

        first of all, 10x

i found out what the problem is and i wanted to share it with u.

after i installed the sbs, apperantly i didnt finished the setup.
altough i already created 5 working users and mailboxes and tested things on them (web access, forwarding etc...)

thats why i got the error messages.

when i pressed on the "finish setup" button. it asked for a 25 digit product key number.

but, and thats a big "but"- the key i own is not corrcect.
why? because i installed service pack 1! (הי"ד)

        now im reinstalling.
and i hope it will work.
        Best regards,
        Or.

Thanks for that info Orczer but I can't see how SP1 will affect the product key? Can you shed any light on that Steven?

            No

I have never seen an installation ask for a code when you FINISH the setup and SP1 doesn't do anything to that.
            OEM/FPP or VL edition?
            Standard or Premium?
            TIA
