  • migration from sbs2000 to sbs2003

    hi,
if i want to migrate 35 users and mailboxes from sbs 2000 domain to a new sbs 2003 domain with another dns (X.LOCAL instead of Y.LOCAL).

how do you recommend doing it?

    1. migrate user accounts and mailboxes (not all of them)
    2. dilling with the users profiles on their pc's i the most efficient way (so they can still use their own profiles, maybe just change the outlook profile but not all of it)

im asking u, because every person i asked is recommending something else.
    and u r mvp's so...

    10x
    Best regards,
    Or.

    Hi orczer.

Have you read what MS has to say about the upgrade?

      hey jeremy,
      no, i haven't read it.

because we didn't want to upgrade.
we bought a brand new server, so we installed sbs 2003.
plus, most ppl told us that upgrading sbs is not a wise choice.
      Best regards,

Well if you had read it you would notice that it goes over an in-place upgrade and a migration to a new server. Might still want to give it a look.

        On page 6
...you can either upgrade the existing server or perform a server migration. A server migration involves installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 on a new computer and then migrating data and settings. ...

          great,
          i'll read it.

          10x jeremy

by the way, what about the users profiles?
is there a way for them to keep using the same user profile (after modifying) although it's not the same domain name?
