  • ADMT WIN2000 to SBS2003

ok I have done nothing but research on migrating a windows 2000 AD to a Windows 2003 SBS. And rite now it looks as if it wont be to bad of a job,
but there is one thing that has me puzzeled. what I have is a small 5 client
windows 2000 domain that will be replaced with a windows 2003 SBS with
    5 new client Pc's.

so my ? is when I perform the client computer migration do I need to have the new client PC's connected to the new DC when I perform the migration or not.

        Re: ADMT WIN2000 to SBS2003

        1) This is an SBS issue, thread moved to the rght forum.

        2) SBS can't do trusts, so ADMT will not work.

          Re: ADMT WIN2000 to SBS2003

Actually, ADMT works for migration purposes only in SBS as per the MS white paper. However there is actually no need to do so. There are two options - if you are CERTAIN that the existing server is clean and trouble free, you could do an in-place upgrade. If not, then if you want to use either the same hardware or new hardware, then in my mind the ONLY way to do it (as has been mentioned) is swing migration (www.sbsmigration.com).
