  • NT4 - Password Reseting Question (Not A Lost Password)

We have an NT 4 domain that has restricted access due to Sarbanes and the passwords expire every 30 days. We have about 15 actual "Domain Administrators" and then about 30 "Account Operators".

Our account operators work at the helpdesk and support a large number of users in separate domains. They never login to the domain, they just use "user manager for domains" from their XP client to reset regular client passwords in the domain. Once the account operator's password expires, they can no longer access the domain and have no method to change their password. Furthermore, they cannot even proactively change their own password in user manager as they can only change passwords for people below them.

Is anyone aware of a third party tool or some solution that would allow the account operators to either proactively change their own password or change their password after it has expired without actually logging into the domain?

Quest, NetIQ and other companies sell domain managment tools.
To get better perfomance etc. its recommanded to upgrade to Win 2003 R2 domain first.
