  • Wow! Nice way to bypass Windows Activation prompts!

I cannot say more, but i just discovered a cool way in which you can easily (very easily, too damn easily) bypass the Windows Activation prompt. I tested it with Windows Server 2008 RC1, but I need some help in testing it in Vista/XP and 2003.

So, if anyone has a VM with either Vista, XP Pro or Windows 2003, and that machine has timed out its activation period, and you'd like to help, ping me.

More info will be released on the main site so keep an eye on it, as it will probably attract some fire...

Note that the purpose of this experiment is NOT to crack/hack or in any ways use a non-legit and illegal copy of Windows. It's just used as a means of getting into Windows AFTER it bombed with the activation screen, change necessary settings, grab files, and then either stop using it (because it's against the EULA), or activate it as needed.

Useful for MCTs! Are you sick of phone activation of multiple VMs

PM me with the details as I have a few to activate for the next course so will be happy to test

Ahhhh! Vista RTM and Vista SP1 RC1 are also vulnerable to this little "trick" I found...

Anyone with an 2003/XP Pro machine that has bombed out with the activation process?

No, this is not a hacking option. It's just a means of bypassing the activation screen in order to access your computer AFTER the activation timeout.

Re: Wow! Nice way to bypass Windows Activation prompts!

It seems that you can make the process much shorter by simply launching IE from the activation screen, typing c:\windows, and then browse for explorer.exe, double-click it and bingo. As long as you don't close the activation screen you can continue to work with Windows 2008/Vista.

Note that someone claimed that this will stop working after 21 days. I haven't tested it out yet.
                        Cheers,

                          Hi Daniel,

I've have a VM Windows 2003 Web Edition that has bombed out. Whenever I try to login it throws me out again. The server is up and running, filesystem is available but it's not possible to log on.

The message "This copy of Windows must be activated.... before you can continue. You cannot log on until you activate Windows. Do you want to activate Windows now?" YNC

Any tips on how to bypass this so I can reactivate?

                          Regards,

                          Arko
