  • access to data after formatting

I have laptop computer that I formatted due to virus problem.

my HD is partitioned to a Data drive and a system drive, which I formatted.

an old data folder on the Data drive (which was not formatted) was protected by a password.

I reinstalled Windows XP on my system drive, put the same account name on my new administrator account, I use the SAME password on my new account as my old one.

still I cant gain access to that folder.

how can I remove the password security on that folder?
or otherwise gain acces to it?

    thank you in advance.

Do you mean ENCRYPTED the folder (gone to properties then advanced and selected "encrypt contents"?
if so, there is no official way to recover the data but if you search here, some people have managed to do it

If you are only talking about an NTFS permissions issue then you can simply take ownership of the drive where the folder(s) exist and reset the permissions, making sure you select the options to replace the permissions and ownership on all child objects and subcontainers.
