  • ethereal port 79 multicasting

I have ethereal log capturing lots of packets with destination of 224.0.1.20 and port of UDP 79. This is multicast traffic going to a finger port. is this something I should be concerned about? I have one of the source PCs and can not see the traffic using netstat -a and running adaware has not stopped traffic so I guess that means a trojan is out of the question. We have multiple source PCs doing the same thing. Any ideas- thanks

    Re: ethereal port 79 multicasting

My belief is always to disable all useless port(s). If you do not need it, why leave it open. I believe you can use your firewall to block it. It may be activity of some malicious software as using adaware to determine is always not enough.
