  • NTFS Disk Not Discovered

I have tried using the password reset tools on the Petri Website which all seem to start off ok and run in a Dos lookalike mode(Linux?). Trouble is that the apps cannot detect an NTFS disk even though the 2 laptops I have tried the software on both have NTFS disks in them. Is there a special type of NTFS disk that these apps can't access?

Please can anyone help - I am trying to get into a laptop for a friend - his son owned the laptop and was tragically killed in a road accident. dad believes that there may be some photos of his son on the laptop and we need to get them if we can.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

    Re: NTFS Disk Not Discovered

Linux does not natively have support for NTFS formatted paritions. They are Microsoft developed system and as such not 'industry standard'.

You can get additional softwrae for Linux that will allow the access to NTFS formatted partitions.

I would suggest getting a 2.5" to 3.5" convertor (not expensive) and plugging the drive into a computer with Windows 2000 or XP on. Then you will be able to browse the drive with ease (provided there is no corruption etc...)

Thanks for that. I could try opening up the laptop as I have a 2.5" usb/power adapter I could use on another PC, but the guy would not really want me to start opening it up - he is keen to preserve it as it was (sentimental). Do you have details of the Linux apps I could use on an NTFS disk to reset the password?
      Thanks
