  • Resetting Windows 2000 Password w/ SATA Drives

Hello all. I have read the stickies so I think I should have all the relevant information below. The problem I am having is none of the reset methods detect the hard drives (Seagate 7200.7 SATA) I think the issue may be the SATA controller on the Intel D865GBF motherboard....but I don't know for sure since I haven't had to this before. I went to look to see if there was a way to get the ICH5 driver from Intel but I don't find a generic linux driver....and even if I did I am not exactly sure how to add it to the offline NT editor that is available on the various linux live cd's or as a stand alone.

Edit: Also I did read this thread and I am using the latest cd based build and floppy based build.

Ok below is the pertinant info...if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

    Intel D865GBF Motherboard
    P4 3.0ghz (s47
    4 GB's DDR 2700
    2xSeagate 7200.7 SATA HArd drives
    Generic Floppy
    Generic CD-RW
Windows 2000 Server 1-4 proc 5 cal (unsure on service pack since well I am trying to gain access after a fired employ changed this)

    - Are you in a Workgroup or in an Active Directory domain environment?

    - What are you trying to do?
    Reset password

    - Why are you trying to do it?
    Fired employee changed password

    - What did you try already, why, and what was the result of your actions?
Tried the offline NT editor stand alone and on linux live cd's and it did not detect harddrives.

Tried loginrecovery and it failed ot get the sam file because of hard drive.

    - What was the exact error message that you received?
No error message with offline just no hard drives detected.

    - What does the Event Log say?
I don't have it but if it is really neccesary I can try and get it.

    - Are there any hardware restrictions we should know of (i.e. no floppy, no CD, etc.)

None other than the SATA drives I think

    - Do you have current backups?
    Not current enough

    - Any other information you think we might need in order to help you.
None that I can think of.
